Employment with the Town of Greece is governed by the Civil Service law of the State of New York, under the jurisdiction of Monroe County Civil Service Commission. These laws require that the selection and promotion of employees be based on merit and fitness. There are different selection procedures based on how they have classified a position. Written examination, training, experience and review of an applicant's minimum qualifications are some methods that are used by the Monroe County Civil Service Commission to determine candidates merit and fitness for a position.
The Monroe County Civil Service Commission is located at 39 West Main Street, Rochester, New York 14614 (www.monroecounty.gov). You may wish to visit their office or web site and inquire as to upcoming civil service examinations. They periodically schedule tests in a career field for which you may qualify. Based on the results of these examinations, applications (Eligible Lists) are referred to the various municipalities and school districts in Monroe County as vacancies occur.
The majority of the Town of Greece positions (ie: clerical, police officer) are competitive positions. Application for employment in these positions are made through the Monroe County Civil Service Commission, at the County Office Building, 39 West Main Street, Rochester, New York. Some full time positions (ie: laborer, motor equipment operator), and some part time positions (ie: recreation assistant, library clerk) are non-competitive and are filled at the Town's discretion.
Applications for non competitive, seasonal, and summer positions are currently available at the second floor reception desk at the Town Hall, One Vince Tofany Blvd. Applications and resumes are kept in an Active file for a period of one year. The next time you are in the area stop by and drop off your resume or fill out an application.
Civil Service test schedules are also available on the second floor at the Town Hall.
