Special Police

The Greece Special Police Unit is made up of volunteers who assist the Town of Greece and the Greece Police Department. The unit is called upon to assist with traffic and crowd control during special events, emergencies and storms.

The Special Police Unit works an average of 5,000 hours a year. Their duties include:

  • traffic control
  • crowd control for special events and emergencies
  • park and school patrols to ensure buildings are secured
  • assist as Court Security when needed
  • issue parking violations throughout the town
  • bike patrol duties
  • ATV patrol duties

The Special Police Unit is continually recruiting for additional officers. The basic qualifications for applicants are:

  • Must Be of good moral character
  • Be physically able to perform the duties of a Special Police Officer
  • Have a favorable driving record
  • Live in Monroe County, New York
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be customer-service orientated

Interested individuals should call 581-6325. Training classes start in October of each year. All persons who apply for Special Police Officer position will go through a background check, interview process, and physical. All training, uniforms and mandatory equipment are provided.
