The Greece Special Police Unit is made up of volunteers who assist the Town of Greece and the Greece Police Department. The unit is called upon to assist with traffic and crowd control during special events, emergencies and storms.
The Special Police Unit works an average of 5,000 hours a year. Their duties include:
- traffic control
- crowd control for special events and emergencies
- park and school patrols to ensure buildings are secured
- assist as Court Security when needed
- issue parking violations throughout the town
- bike patrol duties
- ATV patrol duties
The Special Police Unit is continually recruiting for additional officers. The basic qualifications are:
- minimum of 18 years of age
- high school diploma or equivalent
- permanent resident of Monroe Count, New York and a U.S. citizen
- a NYS driver's license with clean driving record
- good physical and mental health condition with no medical restrictions which would hinder performing the duties of Special Police Officer
- ability to work a minimum of 12 hours per month
Interested individuals should call 581-6325. Training classes start in October of each year. All persons who apply for Special Police Officer position will go through a background check, interview process, and physical. All training, uniforms and mandatory equipment are provided.
