Supervisor Bill Reilich and the Greece Town Board Proclaim April 18th as Chief Sam DeRosa Day

Monday evening, Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich was joined by Town Board Members Mike Barry, Brett Granville, Andrew Conlon, and Diana Christodaro for a proclamation ceremony honoring the appointment of Mr. Sam DeRosa as Fire Chief for the North Greece Fire District and declaring April 18th as Chief Sam DeRosa Day.

November of last year, Mr. DeRosa was sworn in by the Board of Commissioners of the North Greece Fire District as the first full time Fire Chief. Mr. DeRosa has been tasked with the responsibility to lead the District’s Administrative and Operational branches. Having recently held the position of Interim Director for the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management and prior to that the position of Monroe County Fire Coordinator, Mr. DeRosa’s background and experience in fire safety made him a qualified candidate to lead the district. During last month’s wind storm, Mr. DeRosa’s skills were put to the test when wind gusts surpassed 80 mph causing downed power lines and trees, and leaving nearly 100,000 people in the Rochester area without power. Mr. DeRosa was instrumental in working with Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich, the Greece Town Board, and the Greece Police Department in properly ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Greece residents.

“The leadership and professionalism exemplified by Chief DeRosa during the wind storm last month made him a necessary asset during the state of emergency. The Town of Greece is thankful and honored to have an individual like Chief DeRosa as Fire Chief of the North Greece Fire District. I look forward to continuing to work with Chief DeRosa in the future.” said Supervisor Reilich.
