Supervisor Bill Reilich Presents Proclamation to the Bishop Kearney Varsity Girls Softball Pitcher Emily Phelan

Tuesday evening, Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich was joined by Town Board Members Mike Barry, Brett Granville, Andrew Conlon, and Diana Christodaro and Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan for a proclamation ceremony honoring the Bishop Kearney Varsity Girls Softball Pitcher Emily Phelan for her numerous athletic accomplishments this season and for achieving the title of New York State Player of the Year.

The title of New York State Player of the Year is awarded to students based on their outstanding achievements in their particular sport. This past season, Emily set several Section V Title records, including pitching 3 perfect games, having 9 no-hitters, having 358 strikeouts, and having a .42 ERA (Earned Run Average). Her achievements are also Bishop Kearney records. Emily and the other members of the Bishop Kearney Varsity Girls Softball Team ended a 35 year drought by winning the Section V Title this year. They then proceeded to capture the Western Regional Championship, and finished up the season by winning the New York State Championship in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Pine Plains of Duchess County in Glens Falls, New York. In addition to these achievements, the team was also a unanimous choice for the Team of the Year title, and ranked number 1 in the State in the Final Polls. They set a final record of 25-2, and had 22 straight victories this season.

“I was honored to present Emily with a proclamation recognizing her achievement of the title of New York State Player of the Year”. said Supervisor Bill Reilich. “The Town of Greece is proud of individuals like Emily who exemplify perseverance and determination in attaining their goals”.
