Supervisor Reilich Announces Town-Sponsored DMV-Approved Defensive Driving Courses Now Available to Greece Residents

Supervisor Bill Reilich is consistently exploring new and convenient services to offer to Town of Greece residents. Supervisor Reilich is pleased to announce that the Greece Police Department will now be hosting Defensive Driving Courses for residents. These Town-Sponsored Defensive Driving Courses offered through the National Safety Council are DMV-approved for point and insurance reduction. After hearing from residents about how costly Defensive Driving Courses can be through other organizations, Supervisor Reilich began looking into how the Town of Greece could offer these courses at a reasonable price to residents.

Greece Residents who are interested in attending Defensive Driving Courses may sign up via the Town of Greece website. Visit the Town of Greece website at www.greeceny.gov, click the “Residents” tab on the upper right hand corner of the home page, select “Defensive Driving Course”, and follow the link to submit the online registration form. You may also access the registration link directly by clicking here: https://is.gd/Q1l9th. Please note that the online registration form is submitted through the Town of Greece Community Center. This means that a few of the registration questions may be irrelevant, but are nonetheless mandatory that you answer in order to complete the online registration process. There will be a section on the registration webpage to input your credit card information. Accepted credit cards are Visa/Mastercard/Discover.

Residents who wish to register in person must do so at the Town of Greece Community Center counter. Accepted forms of in-person payment include cash, check, and credit card.

Defensive Driving Courses will be held in the Town of Greece Police Headquarters at 6 Vince Tofany Boulevard, Greece, NY 14612. Several courses will be scheduled throughout the year – please check the Town of Greece website for updated information on upcoming courses.

Due to the required length of the course, Defensive Driving Courses will be held in two separate session on weeknights (ex: 3 hours on Tuesday evening and 3 hours on Thursday evening of the same week). The course is 6 hours in length total. The first scheduled Defensive Driving Course will be held Tuesday, February 26th, 2019 from 6pm – 9pm (first session) and Thursday, February 28th, 2019 from 6pm – 9pm (second session). You must attend both sessions in order to complete the course.

All course material questions will be covered during the extensive class sessions. Additional information regarding the course and point and insurance reduction can be found on the DMV website at https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/point-insurance-reduction-program.

“I am very excited to announce that the Town of Greece has been approved to offer Defensive Driving Courses at a reduced rate to our residents” said Supervisor Reilich. “This means that residents may now take Defensive Driving Courses at the Town of Greece Police Headquarters, which has been approved as an official National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course location. Bringing cost-efficient services to Town of Greece residents has always been one of my top priorities. Other organizations that offer Defensive Driving Courses range from $24.99/student all the way to $44/student. I am pleased to offer these courses at the very reasonable rate of $17/student, which covers the cost of the materials provided. I hope you will take advantage of this great service the town now offers! Safety is a top priority, and having well-trained drivers is beneficial to all residents”.
