Greece Council Members Diana Christodaro, Mike Barry, Bill Murphy, and Josh Jensen and Greece Receiver of Taxes Andrew Conlon, along with representatives and volunteers from the UR Medicine Home Care Program participated today in a nationwide March for Meals Campaign, which is a part of the Meals on Wheels Program.
Established during the 1970’s, the Meals on Wheels Program has grown to become one the largest volunteer-based programs in the country. Every day, millions of meals are delivered across the country to senior citizens in need. Every March, the Meals on Wheels program kicks off a month-long campaign to help encourage local organizations to get involved and assist in delivering meals to senior citizens in the community. This will be the 17th year the March for Meals Campaign has been organized locally.
“The March for Meals Campaign is a wonderful campaign that helps to generate public awareness about senior hunger and isolation and celebrate the critical role the Meals on Wheels Program has in our community” said Supervisor Reilich. “With over 1,400 seniors throughout Monroe County served by Meals on Wheels, I would like to encourage all municipalities and residents to step up and volunteer their time to participate in the March for Meals Campaign and help bring meals to their community’s senior citizens”.
