Supervisor Bill Reilich and Councilman Josh Jensen Attend Recognition Ceremony for Barnard Fire Department Member Dean Smith

Last night, Supervisor Bill Reilich and Councilman Josh Jensen attended a recognition ceremony for Barnard Fire Department member Dean Smith. Dean was recognized for being chosen as the 2019 Fire Safety Educator of the Year.  

Dean has been a member of the Barnard Fire Department since 1984, when he joined Barnard as an Explorer. After completing high school, he joined the ranks of an active firefighter and then was hired as the District’s Fire Safety Educator in 2001. Dean retired as an active volunteer firefighter in January of 2009, but continues to be an active Life Service member. Additionally, he is a retiree of of the Ridge Road Fire District. He continues traveling to different schools to teach children about fire safety and also heads up the Fire Safety Program along with the Child Car Seat Check Program.

“I was honored to join Councilman Josh Jensen as we recognized an outstanding member of the Barnard Fire Department and celebrated his recent accomplishment of being chosen as the 2019 Fire Safety Educator of the Year” said Supervisor Reilich. “We congratulate Dean and thank him for his tireless service to our community”.
