This morning, Supervisor Bill Reilich joined Assemblyman Manktelow, Greece American Legion Post #468 Commander George Dadson, Jr., and several elected officials and community members to voice their concerns regarding the restrictions that have been placed on Nursing Home Facilities.
“A matter that has been weighing on my heart since the beginning of the Pandemic are the restrictions that have been placed on Nursing Home Facilities. As the son of a twice-wounded WWII veteran, I know that my father wasn’t able to fully share the stories of his time in the military until late in his life – these stories never would have been heard by me or my family if what was happening today happened then. My mother was a nursing home resident for 4 years and I know that the frequent visits by me and my family meant the world to both her and to us. With a failing memory, these visits served to “spark” fond memories for her and we cherished our time together. I cannot imagine not having the opportunity to visit both my mother and father on a regular basis” said Supervisor Bill Reilich.
The Greece American Legion Post #468 hosted the location for the conference because the families that spoke had loved ones who proudly served our Country and now are being denied their basic freedoms. During the conference, Greece residents gave firsthand accounts of the impact the nursing home facility restrictions have had on their families and loved ones. We recognize the Miles family and the Vanas family for helping to organize this awareness and advocacy campaign and for sharing their stories. Their stories are some of thousands who have been prohibited from visiting elderly parents and loved ones in nursing home facilities these past several months.
“We must all realize that the clock continues moving forward for all of us, and time spent with our loved ones is very precious. I will continue advocating with all those affected to find a way to reunite our families. Time Lost for those in our nursing home facilities is time lost forever” said Supervisor Bill Reilich.
