Supervisor Bill Reilich and the Greece Town Board are pleased to announce the appointment of current Town Judge, Justice Brett C. Granville, as the Acting Administrative Judge for the Greece Town Court effective September 28, 2020. Further Town Board action will be taken at the October Town Board Meeting where it is expected his position will be confirmed to serve in the role of Administrative Judge.
“Judge Granville is known to be fair-minded and professional at all times. He exhibits patience and compassion and carefully listens to all sides of a case when rendering a decision” said Supervisor Reilich. “The residents of Greece are fortunate to have Judge Granville serving in this capacity”.
Judge Granville is a graduate St. Bonaventure University where he graduated cum laude in May of 1988. He received his Juris Doctor in May, 1991 from The Notre Dame Law School, and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1993.
Judge Granville has been a member of the Greece Town Court since January 2018. As one of our elected justices, he has jurisdiction over all misdemeanors, violations and infractions along with preliminary jurisdiction over felonies. He is also responsible for the handling of small claims, parking, Town Code violations, violations of the Environmental Conservation Law, and evictions.
Judge Granville has a great deal of legal experience; serving most recently as the Second Deputy County Attorney as Supervising Attorney for Family Court Divisions. In that capacity he was responsible for all aspects of the supervision of staff and attorneys (approximately 32 in total) in the Family Court Division of the County Law Department. He was also responsible for providing legal advice and analysis and litigation support to various County departments, including Probation, Sheriff, and Veterans Service Agency.
Judge Granville also served as Town Councilman in the Town of Greece from January, 2012 until December, 2017, at which time he sought the election for Town Justice.
Judge Granville is also very active in our community. He is a Trustee, member of Parish Council and serves on the Finance Committee at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. He is a coach and former board member of Greece Youth Soccer and the former member of the Executive Advisory Board for Bivona Child Advocacy Center.
Judge Granville and his wife, Kate, reside in Greece with their four children.
