Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich is excited to announce that while current renovations and expansions are underway at the Town of Greece Community and Senior Center front entry way, we aren’t done yet! Today we are announcing plans for a complete renovation and expansion to bring even more amenities to our town residents. This project is a culmination of several months of planning to create and provide a state-of-the-art space for Greece residents both young and old. We had originally planned the entryway renovation, however, with many of our residents requesting expanded services and programs as they’ve chosen to stay closer to home of late, we have made a commitment to significantly expand the footprint of the center and further our commitment to provide wellness options to everyone who calls Greece home.
Renovation and expansion work officially commenced last week with the front desk/activity room renovation project. This first phase will include a toddler gym, an expanded senior lounge complete with a fireplace for gathering and upgrades to our gym. In the next few weeks, you will see the main entryway shut down and a new temporary entryway utilized so that residents can continue to participate in our programs and classes. Our staff is doing everything they can to offer as many programs as possible and keep the center up and running throughout the entire construction phase.
Looking at the new expansion, one of the features that is widely used is our indoor walk track. The existing track is currently 305 feet, causing residents to make multiple rounds to reach the one mile benchmark and in its current state, it doesn’t offer much scenary. The expanded walking track will be 970 feet and will bring residents on a very scenic walk that extends through a tunnel heading toward Long Pond Road and looping back in through our expansion. A new Wellness Center will also be added to the space consisting of 2,620 sq. feet and featuring a variety of cardio equipment pieces; elliptical equipment, treadmills and stair climbers just to name a few. We will also be adding a cycling room for use both with scheduled classes or used individually and we hope to provide a subscription based riding program as well. We have plans for many dedicated areas throughout the space and we are thrilled to provide this expansion for the residents. Overall, we will be adding a 32,250 sq. foot addition to the C&SC’s existing 39,330 square feet. That will bring the total building area to 71,580 square feet and more in line with a town of our size.
As we did with the Children’s Library Expansion, we will provide updates and “sneak peeks” throughout the project’s duration.
See the attached pictures to view the planned layout for the first floor, second floor, and a visual of the building from the exterior.
Due to the extent of this work, the C&SC has drafted a revised schedule for activities that will vary from month to month. Please visit https://bit.ly/greecerecreation to view the monthly calendar. Please note, activities and programs may change last minute due to construction. We are also encouraging residents to sign up for our text alerts by texting ‘CSC Notify’ to 74121. This will provide the most up-to-date information on any last minute changes to programs.
“The Town of Greece is home to nearly 100,000 residents. Each year, tens of thousands of residents utilize the various activities and amenities offered by our Greece Community and Senior Center, and this number is ever increasing” said Supervisor Reilich. “The Greece Town Board Members and I regularly receive phone calls and messages from residents asking for expanded features and amenities in the Town of Greece. Our most recent recreation survey has been our guide in deciding which services are in most demand. Many great improvements have already been made on the Greece Town Hall Campus – including the most recent Greece Public Library Children’s Center last year. We are all excited to bring another option for expanded programs and activities to our residents by offering these wellness opportunities. Thank you in advance for your patience while we undergo these exciting changes for your future enjoyment!”
