The 58 Sheriffs of New York and Governor Andrew Cuomo have declared that Sheriff’s Week will be celebrated in New York State during the week of September 17th, 2017. Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich is pleased to recognize Sheriff’s Week here in Monroe County, where we celebrate the noteworthy contributions the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office makes in our community.
The Sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement officer in the county, and the Sheriff’s Office has many bureaus that provide safety and security to citizens. They not only provide the community with “traditional” and high profile police duties such as road patrol, criminal investigations, and traffic enforcement, but also patrol our lakes and waterways, provide security in our courts and airports, and maintain our county jails. The Sheriff’s Office is also an integral part of each county’s emergency planning system by taking an active role in community crime prevention efforts and victim’s assistance programs, being in the forefront of drug awareness education in our schools, and providing specialized services to the elderly population.
“It has been my distinct honor to serve the people of Monroe County as their Sheriff for the past 16 years and to be a part of the rich history of this Office. It is the honorable men and woman of the past and present who have made this agency what it is today; the only Sheriff’s Office in New York State to be state and nationally accredited with a reputation that is second to none.” said Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn, who currently serves as the 47th Sheriff of Monroe County.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office commenced Sheriff’s Week with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Fallen Deputy Memorial on the Civic Center Plaza on Monday, September 18th, where they recognized those individuals who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community.
“I am honored to join Monroe County in recognizing Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn and the entire Monroe County Sheriff’s Department for the significant impact they make in our community”. said Supervisor Bill Reilich. “They not only serve all residents in Monroe County, but also provide resources to our own Greece Police Department. They have provided bomb sniffing dogs, assisted in enhancing our bomb squad, and partnered with us for major events throughout the Town such as our July 4th activities. On behalf of the Greece Town Board and all of our residents, we extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn and all of his Deputies”.
