Supervisor Reilich Announces 2018 Conservation Tree & Shrub Program

Supervisor Bill Reilich is pleased to join the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District in announcing the “Breaking Out of Winter and Gearing Up For Spring 2018 Conservation Tree & Shrub Program”. The purpose of this program is to provide seedlings for homeowners, which will help with erosion control, soaking up water, helping with storm water runoff and nutrient uptake, and improve wildlife habitat. The district has been hosting this annual program for over 41 years with more than 116,760 trees, shrubs, and plants being distributed in the last 5 years alone.

Property owners will have the opportunity to pre-order more than 42 different species of bare-root conifers, hardwood trees, shrubs, wildflowers and groundcovers, as well as seed mixes and other products used for conservation projects. Packages of all shapes and sizes are available, as well as editable fruit packs for attracting wildlife. Native species new to the program this year are Witchhazel, Gray Dogwood, American Hazelnut, and Eastern Sweetshrub.

Selections can be found by visiting the website catalog at www.monroecountyswcd.org. The deadline for ordering is March 2nd, 2018. A first come, first serve overstock sale will be held on April 21st, 2018 for those that missed the pre-ordering deadline. If you have any questions or would like a form sent to you, please contact the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District at 585-753-7380.

“I am excited to join the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District in offering the 2018 Conservation Tree & Shrub Program to our residents” said Supervisor Reilich. “Please consider participating in this cost-effective program and chose from a variety of trees, shrubs, and plants”.
